Utsav Logo – Love it or love it

September 8, 2007

Utsav 2007 logo

We finally got a logo design done…. Wooohooo! I learnt along the way that it’s far easier to critique a logo design than it is to produce one. At the same time critical comments from really smart and dedicated people actually really helps get to the right answer or certainly a right-er answer. So while I’m pretty sure that this logo isn’t going to appeal to every one of you, I’m confident it’s going to grow on you and will be something that you will remember.

Either way do tell us what you think about it….we really do want to know…

Utsav 2007 – Save The Dates

September 3, 2007

Save The Dates

Every fall Ragamala offer its audiences a great performing arts extravaganza with the annual Utsav festival. This year is no different. Utsav 2007 promises to be the biggest, most elaborate Utsav yet. The festival will run over two weekends – October 6, 7 and Oct. 12, 13 and 14, and will feature some of the best local talents in many different fields. Our featured artists this year are Gana Tarangini with Kansas Raja and Friends (Pop music) on October 6, the Jhaveri Sisters (Manipuri dance) on October 7, Madurai T. N. Seshagopalan (Carnatic Vocal) on October 12, Lakshmi Shankar (Hindustani Vocal) on October 13 and Sreyashi Dey (Odissi) on October 14.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all at Utsav this year. Support your community and enrich your lives at the same time. Tell your friends about it and more importantly bring them with you. Make this the most successful Utsav yet!

About Ragavani: Ragamala’s Journal of Indian Music and Dance

August 27, 2007

Ragavani debuted in Spring 2007 as an online journal of scholarly articles, concert and book reviews and conversations with experts in the field of Indian music and dance. Here is an excerpt of a review of Shruti Sadolikar’s recent concert for Ragamala written by Vaishampayana.

“It was with some sense of anticipation that the reviewer attended Smt. Shruti Sadolikar-Katkar’s recital at the Music Building at the University of Washington on July 14, 2007. My anticipation, which I am sure was mirrored by the internal thoughts of others in the audience, arose out of a curiosity to see how well Shruti had maintained the tradition of her Atrauli-Jaipur Gharana. Introducing Ragamala’s Blog

August 25, 2007

Dear Friends,

It is indeed a great pleasure for me to inaugurate Ragamala’s blog. At Ragamala, we have tried, over the last few years, to introduce new and innovative ways of thinking about, encouraging, supporting and consuming the arts. We hope that all of you will help make the Ragamala blog a big success by contributing your thoughts and comments on programming that we offer throughout the year. This will, we hope become an interactive forum, a place where you can offer your suggestions as well as criticisms, and a place where we can respond to your queries and address your needs.

Please do let us know what you think by utilizing this blog. We will be reading and acting on your advice. Thank you for your support of Ragamala and its mission.Warm regards,
Arijit Mahalanabis
President, Ragamala.
