Raja Govindarajan, also known as Kansas Raja, has been performing full-length concerts in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Bengali throughout the U.S. for the past 20 years. His diverse background in languages, culture and community helps him present widely versatile concerts covering multiple genres of music, from ghazals to popular film music hits. Raja particularly enjoys performing live stage music and the camaraderie it offers him with musicians and music lovers. It is his main source of musical learning and growth. Of particular mention are his performances with Mr. S. P. Balasubramaniam in Houston and with other South Indian playback singers like Anoorada Sriram in New Jersey, Harini in Tampa, and the U. S concert tour with Sunitha. Raja works as Senior Manager – Corporate Strategy for Sprint Corporation in Kansas City.
Ranjini Vijay acquired her initial interest in music from her mother, Mrs. Lakshmi Vijay, at the very early age of 4. At the age of 7, she came under the tutelage of Sri. T.G. Badrinarayanan, who was one of the first students of the late Sri. D. K. Jayaraman. Ranjini’s debut concert was at the age of 13. Through her school years she has won nearly 90 prizes and has performed for the All India Radio 4 times. In the film world, she has sung with P. B. Srinivas, given performances with light music troupes on stage in India and in the U.S. She participated in and won awards in the All-India-Youth program vocal competition organized in Delhi. Recent accomplishments of Ranjini include participating as a lead vocalist with A. R. Rahman’s group during his tour during the summer of 2007.
Ramesh Maraj was born in Georgetown, Guyana. He was raised in Toronto, Canada, where he received a degree in music. He subsequently joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he continued to receive extensive musical training at the Canadian Forces School of Music while performing for visiting dignitaries as part of the band. Ramesh owes his deep passion for Indian music to his father the late Pandit Isri Maraj. Various artists have featured his scintillating saxophone solos on their albums. He currently resides in New York City and tours extensively nationally as well as abroad. He has been performing for over twenty years and is a seasoned musician who has become a household name in many parts of North America, South America, and the Caribbean. V Daze, the accompanying band of musicians is a group of extremely talented musicians who regularly perform in the light music circuit in the Bay Area, and tour other parts of the country. The core team is represented by: Kishmu and « VK » Vijayakumar on keyboards, Arun « Caddy » Narasimhan on drums and Arun Pillai on ethnic percussion.
